Contest |
|
Bring your Unusual, Your Beautiful, Or Your Rare
Bicycle
For
those who put more effort into making their bike look beautiful than they do
riding, there is the "Best of Show" Contest. Entrants have their bike placed on
display Saturday evening to allow Rally participants, as they are strolling and
sipping, to vote for the best looking bikes in the following categories: Open,
Tandem, Recumbent, and Classic. The votes are tallied and the winners announced
Sunday evening.
This
Contest takes place during our vendor marketplace, wine and cheese tasting
party and track stand contest on Saturday night. |

Volunteer of the Month:
Jim Ware
 |
The Rally is supported and organized by loyal
volunteers. Jim Ware, being the husband of co-director Sharon Ware steadfastly
volunteers his time each year to make the Rally a success. And he has done so
for many, many years!
- Jim chooses the routes each year including the 100-mile
and 100k. He also edits the route instructions and maps to keep them
current
- He is the "go to" and handy man when we are in a
pinch
- He helps with setting up and cleaning up
- He picks up the wine for the wine ride
- He builds things (our new sign in front of the
headquarters)
- He is our third opinion and moral support
person
- He helps marketing at events we attend
Need we say more..... we can't ask for more. Thanks Jim! |

Featured Sponsor: Trek Bicycle
 |
Trek Bicycle produces some
of the most popular biycles in the U.S. They are successful for many reasons,
but one of those reasons is their outreach to events like the GWBR. They are
one of the few companies that has, for many years, conducted consistent
grassroot marketing to expose their brand and increase their sales to
recreational cyclists.
They have been a HUGE help to the GWBR by providing mechanical assistance and
some road support each year. In exchange, they are allowed to market their
bikes by providing demo bikes for GWBR attendees to try. This is a terrific
partnership with Trek and a great opportunity for particpants to try a Trek for
an entire day. In addition, within the last few years, they have been marketing
to women by providing women specific bikes both in look, feel and fit. This
year, Tori Broughton from Trek will be on hand with demo bikes for women. So
women, if you want to try a new Trek bike, now is your
chance! |
